Baseball Falls to Baruch

BROOKLYN, NY – A.J. Passione (Brooklyn, NY/Xavarian) went 3-for-4 and Chris Davidson(San Carlos, CA/Canada College) had three RBI in a losing effort as the St. Joseph's College baseball team (12-16) dropped a 9-4 decision to Baruch College (15-9) in nine innings at Old Boys High School on Thursday afternoon.  The game was a makeup of the originally scheduled matchup on April 11th that was cancelled by rain.

St. Joseph's grabbed an early 2-1 lead in the first inning on a Davidson two-run home run, his second of the season, scoring Jon Mendez (Brooklyn, NY/Xavarian).

Danny Contant (Staten Island, NY/Xavarian) was dominant through four innings striking out nine and surrendering two hits.  Contant struggled in the fifth, walking the first two batters and giving up two hits as Baruch scored five runs which would prove to be the difference.  Receiving his first loss on the season, Contant pitched six innings striking out ten, walking four and giving up six runs (five unearned).

Passione and Steve Tanamal (Brooklyn, NY/New Utrecht) scored in the eighth on hits by Davidson and Jason Iannozzi(Brooklyn, NY/Kingsborough CC) to pull within two runs, but Baruch plated three runs in their final frame to put the game out of reach for the Bears.

St. Joseph's travels to Newburgh, NY to face Mount Saint Mary for a two-game slate on Saturday, April 25.  The Bears will play their final home games of the season in a doubleheader against Newbury College on Sunday, April 26 at Juniper Park in Middle Village, Queens.  First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
