St. Joseph’s Drops Myrtle Beach Finale to Ramapo

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – In their final game at The Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, SC, St. Joseph's baseball team lost a 16-2 decision to NJAC (New Jersey Athletic Conference) opponent, Ramapo.  The game was the Bears' fourth of the weekend, giving them a 1-3 record at Myrtle Beach.

St. Joseph's had a chance to draw first blood, getting two runners on with one out in the first inning, but couldn't bring any across.  Ramapo capitalized scoring a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning off of Bears' starter Danny Contant (Staten Island, NY/Xavierian).

After getting out of a jam in the first, the Bears couldn't hold Ramapo down in the second as the Roadrunners pushed seven runs across to jump out to an 8-0 lead.  St. Joseph's pitchers had trouble finding the strike zone, issuing 14 free passes and allowing 12 hits.

Roadrunners starter Mark Delannoy kept the Bears bats at bay allowing no runs and three hits in five innings while striking out seven to pick up the win.  Ramapo pitchers kept the Bears off the board until the eighth inning when the game was out of reach.

Joe Mendez (Staten Island, NY/Monsignor Farrell) picked up two RBI for St. Joseph's with a single, giving him three straight games with at least one RBI.

The Bears are off until the weekend when they visit NYU-Poly for a doubleheader on Saturday, February 25 starting at 12:00 pm.
