Mendez Receives D3Baseball.com and AD3I Weekly Honors

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – It was a week of accolades for Bears junior outfielder Joe Mendez (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) as he earned Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) baseball Player of the Week honors and was named to D3Baseball.com's Team of the Week after batted .692 and led the Bears to four wins last week.

Mendez batted 9-for-13 on the week with a team-high 13 RBI and eight runs scored. The outfielder belted a home run and five doubles to post a team-high 1.308 slugging percentage along with a .688 on base percentage over the four-game stretch. Mendez had his best games of the week in the doubleheader against King's (N.Y.) as he went 4-for-5 with two doubles, five runs scored and seven RBI.

Mendez is currently the Bears' career leader in slugging percentage (.568), runs batted in (94) and doubles (43).

The AD3I Player of the Week honor is the first earned by Mendez in his three-year career and the sixth by the Bears this season. He is also the second Bear ever to be named to D3Baseball's Team of the Week, joining catcher Danny Zaretsky, who received the honor earlier this season.

St. Joseph's (17-8) returns to action today as they host the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY at Lower Roosevelt Field with first pitch set for 4:30 p.m.
