AD3I Names Mendez Its Male Student-Athlete of the Month for March

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Senior Joe Mendez (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) was recognized by the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) as its Male Student-Athlete of the Month for the month of March after leading the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) baseball team in home runs and RBIs.

Mendez had a monster month at the dish for the Bears, hitting an impressive .469 (15-for-32) with a team-high five homers and 23 RBI as St. Joseph's went 8-2 during the month. The outfielder recorded a hit in all but one of the Bears' ten games, including three contests with three hits. Mendez was a major run producer for St. Joseph's, finishing with six multiple RBI games and scored 14 runs, concluding March with a .526 on base percentage and a dazzling 1.062 slugging percentage.

The senior had his breakout day at the plate on March 29th in a doubleheader at Maritime, connecting on four dingers and driving in 11 runs on the day. Mendez drove in a career-high eight RBI and tied the school record for most homers in a game with three during the opener. With his fourth home run of the day against the day against the Privateers, the outfielder became the Bears all-time career home run leader with 14 career long balls. In recognition of his career day against Maritime, Mendez earned recognition from d3baseball.com, the NCBWA, the USCAA and AD3I.

Mendez earns his first monthly accolade from the Association in his career after being an All-Independent First Team selection each of his first three seasons on campus.

St. Joseph's (14-8) is back in action today as they travel to Pennsylvania to take on Cairn University at 3:30 p.m.
