Cutrone Takes Home USCAA Pitcher and AD3I Player of the Week Honors

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Junior Chris Cutrone (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees HS) was named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Pitcher of the Week and the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Player of the Week after leading the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) baseball team with a pair of complete games on the mound, while pacing the team in RBIs on the week.

Cutrone had another strong week both on the mound and at the plate for St. Joseph's as the Bears went 5-1 on the week. The junior started off the week with a complete game against NJAC member William Paterson on Monday, surrendering only one earned run in nine innings, while fanning a career-high ten batters to pick up his sixth straight win.

The now two-time USCAA Pitcher of the Week threw another gem versus Lehman, going the distance with two earned runs allowed on only three hits in a narrow loss to the Lightning. Cutrone ended the week with a 1.69 ERA in 16.0 innings, striking out 14, walking only two and is now 6-2 on the hill.

The three-time AD3I Player of the Week also batted .278 (5-for-18) on the week with a team-high nine RBI, along with four triples and two runs scored. The second baseman/pitcher had a monster game at the dish in game two at Yeshiva, going 3-for-4 with a career-high seven RBI, along with two triples and a run scored.

Cutrone extended his reached base safely streak to a school-record 29 games following the Yeshiva doubleheader on Friday before having the streak snapped in the opener versus Lehman on Sunday.

The junior joins fellow junior Thomas McKenna (Bellerose, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) who was the USCAA Player of the Week last week and senior Joe Mendez (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) who earned USCAA Player of the Week honors on April 1st as the lone Bears this season to earn recognition from the USCAA. St. Joseph's has now earned six of the seven AD3I Player of the Week honors this season with Mendez a two-time winner and senior Mike Cundari (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's) a recipient as well.

St. Joseph's (24-9) had their doubleheaders scheduled for this Wednesday and Thursday against Penn State-Abington and Albertus Magnus cancelled, so the Bears will now return to action on Saturday, May 3rd for a twinbill at Drew University beginning at 12 p.m.
