Luebcke Collects Third Skyline Baseball Player of the Week Honor

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Hitting successfully in all five games last week, compiling a blistering .526 batting average and 1.000 slugging percentage, senior Brian Luebcke (Astoria, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) was named the Skyline Conference Baseball Co-Player of the Week for games played April 4 to 10, the league office announced this morning.

Luebcke was been recognized in four of the five Skyline weekly reports, receiving his third Player of the Week nod (Mar. 14, Mar. 28, Apr. 11) and named the to the league honor roll once (Mar. 21).

The versatile pitcher/infielder extended his active hitting streak to six games, recording four multi-hit games on the week. Collecting 10 hits in 19 at bats, he bolstered his batting average to .420, now second best in the conference. After launching a pair of home runs and driving in eight runs over a sweep of Yeshiva on Sunday, Luebcke now leads the Skyline in home runs (6), hits (42), doubles (13), runs batted in (35), slugging percentage (.750) and is second in runs scored (27).

With the Bears non-conference game vs. USMMA originally scheduled for tomorrow canceled, St. Joseph's (12-13, 3-3) returns to the diamond with a pair of Skyline doubleheaders this weekend. The Bears face sibling rivals SJC Long Island on Saturday at the SJC Outdoor Complex starting at 12:30 p.m. and host Purchase College at Padavan-Preller Field on Sunday starting at noon.
