LoPrinzi Named Catcher on D3baseball.com Team of the Week

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Lifting his fourth homer of the season and the top run producer over a doubleheader split on Saturday that clinched a berth in the Skyline Conference Championships, St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) junior catcher Nicholas LoPrinzi (Howard Beach, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) has been named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week for games played April 25 to May 1.

The national accolade is the second received by a Bear this season and the eighth in program history.

In the opener of the team's season regular finale vs. Mount Saint Mary College, the junior batted 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs scored and a home run, leading the Bears to a decisive 11-1 victory that subsequently clinched the team's first berth in the Skyline Championships. Behind the plate in game two, the junior backstop didn't allow any stolen bases and threw out the lone runner attempting to steal.

He finishes the regular season ranked fifth in RBI (31) and tied for fifth in home runs. One of two Bears to play in all 16 conference games this season, LoPrinzi compiled the highest batting average on the team in league play with his .421 average ranking fifth best in the Skyline.

Setting their sights on capturing their first league title and NCAA Championship appearance, the Bears enter the Skyline Championship as the No. 6 seed and head to Throggs Neck, N.Y. to face No. 3 Maritime College on Wednesday, May 4 for a first-round, single-elimination game. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. with live stats available on SJCBears.com.
