Luebcke Garners D3Baseball.com All-New York Region Second Team Honors

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Adding to a growing list of accolades, Skyline Conference Player of the Year Brian Luebcke (Astoria, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) was named to the 2016 D3Baseball.com All-New York Region Team earlier today.

The senior is the fifth Bear in program history to collect D3Baseball.com All-Region honors securing a spot on the second team as a utility player. He joins two other Skyline student-athletes on the second team—Tommy Ziegen (Old Westbury) and Stephen Semler (Maritime)—with five overall representing the league on the all-region squad.

Assembling a record-breaking senior campaign, Luebcke steered the team to a 22-20 mark overall—their fourth straight 20-win season and fifth straight winning campaign—and a third-place finish in the Skyline Championship in their first season in the league.

The only Bear to start or play in all 42 games this season matching a Bears record, the senior capped off his career with a team-leading .389 batting average and led or tied for the league lead in hits (65), runs batted in (47), total bases (110), sacrifice flies (7), home runs (7), doubles (20) and at bats (167). A three-time Skyline Player of the Week, Luebcke finished second in slugging (.659) and third in runs scored (38).

The Monsignor McClancy H.S. product set or tied single-season Bears records for at bats, hits, total bases, sacrifice flies, doubles, multi-hit games (23) and multi-RBI games (13).

On the mound, Luebcke compiled a 7-2 record and paced the league in innings pitched (76.0) and complete games (6) and was second best in wins and third best in earned run average (2.96).

Last week, Luebcke signed a contract to play for the Tucson Saguaros in the Pecos League, an independent professional baseball league based in the southwestern United States. In his debut on Sunday, the right-handed hurler allowed just one earned run over six innings and struck out seven to earn his first pro victory.
