Baseball Earns Key Skyline Split With Farmingdale State

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Junior Thomas Pallatto (Oceanside, N.Y./Oceanside) earned a complete-game victory on the mound and sophomore Anthony Camerada (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) had a three-hit effort as the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) baseball team scored one run in the seventh to notch a 4-3 victory over Farmingdale State College to earn a split of their Skyline Conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon.

The Rams, last year's regular season champions and tournament runner-up, never trailed in the opener and held the Bears to three hits in an 8-2 triumph.

• Farmingdale State plated solo unearned runs in the second and third innings to take a 2-0 lead before St. Joseph's got on the board with a solo run—also unearned—in the fourth on a John Condon sacrifice fly.
• Both squads traded runs over the next three half innings, with Adam Schwartz scoring on a double play in the fifth and Christopher McCarthy homering in the bottom half of the inning to put the Rams back on top 5-2.
• With the Bears held hitless—but drawing four walks and a hit batter—the Rams extended their lead with one in the seventh and three in the eighth to close out the opener.

• Nicholas LoPrinzi knocked a two-out triple in the first for the lone extra base hit of the contest for the Bears. He also drew two walks and finished 1-for-2.
• Connor Pasetti and Adam Schwartz collected the other hits for the Bears who were held to three hits in the contest. They both finished 1-for-4 and scored once.
• John Condon delivered the lone RBI with the sacrifice fly in the fourth.
• Anthony Amatuzzi took the loss in the start allowing five runs (three earned), 10 hits, striking out one and walking one.

• The Bears took a 1-0 lead in the second when Anthony Camerada led off with a double and scored the next batter on a Ram miscue.
• Another leadoff double by John Condon in the fourth set up another one-run frame, Adam Schwartz bringing him home with a grounder. But the Rams knotted the game in the bottom half of the inning on a two-out single by Nicholas Soriano.
• Condon drove in his second run of the day with another sacrifice fly in the fifth, with the Rams tying the game again at 3-3 in the home half of the inning on Cam Alfano single.
• The Bears loaded the bases in the seventh with one out after a Nicholas LoPrinzi walk, Condon hit by a pitch, and Camerada knocking a single to center and LoPrinzi trotting home as the go-ahead run on a wild pitch.
• Bears starter Thomas Pallatto retired the final six Rams to go the distance for the first time in his career and pick up his first win of the season.

• Nicholas LoPrinzi was the lone Bear to hit in both ends of the twin bill rapping a single in the fifth and scoring the game-winner after walking in the seventh.
• Connor Pasetti saw his reached base safely streak halted at a team-best 12 games.

• St. Joseph's defeats Farmingdale for the first time—the two teams opening the series last season—but Rams hold a 4-1 edge in the series.
• Farmingdale captured the regular season title last season and were the tournament runners up. The Rams were picked to finish second in the preseason coaches' poll and are seven-time Skyline Champions—most of any team in the league.
