Palermo Named Skyline Baseball Player of the Week; Watters Lands on Honor Roll

NEW YORK — Hitting successfully in all six games last week and driving in the winning runs in a pair of wins, St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) junior Anthony Palermo (Patchogue, N.Y. / Sachem North) was named the Skyline Conference Baseball Player of the Week for March 26-April 1 announced by the league office earlier today.

The corner infielder batted .476 (10-for-21) driving in five runs and scoring three times on the week.

In the conference doubleheader against Farmingdale State on Saturday, he batted 6-for-7 with two runs scored and delivering both runs in the Bears 2-1 triumph over the Rams in the nightcap. On Sunday, he drove in the game-winning run in extra innings to cap a comeback victory over SUNY Poly where the Bears were down to their final out.

The Player of the Week honor is the first received by a Bear baseball player since the 2016 season when Brian Luebcke collected the accolade three times.

Also receiving recognition by the league was sophomore pitcher Andrew Watters (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian) who landed on the weekly honor roll tossing a complete game (7 IP, 8 H, 1 ER, 3 K, 1 BB) in Saturday's 2-1 victory.

The Bears are scheduled to host Drew University on Wednesday, April 4 in a non-conference tilt at Calvert Vaux Park. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. but stay tuned to SJCBears.com and @SJCBears for schedule updates as a result of the wintry mix that hit the area today.
