Baseball Falls on the Road to Ramapo

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) baseball team (1-1-1) recorded their first loss of the 2019 season, 8-0, at Ramapo College of New Jersey (1-0) on the road on Friday afternoon in a single game as the second half of the doubleheader was cancelled.

How It Happened
The Bears went down one-two-three in the top of the first and Ramapo saw two walks and a hit batsman to open the bottom, but SJC held them to just one run on a fielder's choice to limit the damage.

Ramapo's lead held at 1-0 for two more frames but they padded it in the fourth on a double down the left field line for a 2-0 advantage after four. The Roadrunners tacked on another single tally in their half of the fifth as the Bears' offense couldn't find much offense the whole contest and the hosts led 3-0 entering the sixth.

The Roadrunners exploded for five more runs in the sixth as three singles loaded the bases and two runs were walked home followed by a bases-clearing base knock. Ramapo's C.J. Growney struck out six Bears over six scoreless innings and allowed just four hits to keep SJC's bats quiet in the victory.

For the Bears

• William DeLuca (Valley Stream, N.Y./Valley Stream Central) went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles in his only two at-bats on the day.
• Michael Gonzalez (Brooklyn. N.Y./Midwood) and Kevin Reyes (Bronx, N.Y./AECI) recorded the only other hits on the day for the Bears.
