Leary Collects Skyline Baseball Rookie of the Week Honors; Reyes Receives Honor Roll Nod

NEW YORK — Batting a team-leading .667 over the weekend in the Bears season-sending series against Maritime College, St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) sophomore Chris Leary (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) was named the Skyline Conference Baseball Rookie of the Week, announced by the league office this evening.

Leary went 8-for-12 at the plate and slugged 1.000. Four of his eight base knocks were extra-base hits, all doubles. He also scored a team-high six times, while driving in five runs. The junior highlighted his weekend with knocking a career-best three hits during a 3-for-4, two-RBI effort in Saturday's nightcap. Hitting in all four games of the series, Leary ended the season on a seven-game hitting streak.

Also receiving honorable mention from the conference was Kevin Reyes (Bronx, N.Y./AECI).  The senior closed out his collegiate career on a high note batting .600 (9-for-15) over the series. He knocked four extra-base hits, which was highlighted by his second home run of the season to finish in the team lead in the category and tied for fifth in the league. Over the weekend, Reyes drove in five runs, scored as many times, walked once, stole a base, and lifted a sacrifice fly. In the season finale, he also made his first collegiate appearance on the bump, striking out two in one inning of work.

Leary's weekly award was the first of the season and the first since C.J. Bunnicelli was named Rookie of the Week in 2018.
