Manhattanville Sweeps Monday Matinee From Baseball

PURCHASE, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) baseball team suffered a pair of defeats to Manhattanville College on Monday afternoon, 10-5 and 12-6.

How it Happened (Game 1)

Both teams scored runs in the first inning. Following a scoreless second, the Valiants had a pair of three-run innings in the third and fourth to lead 7-1. A two-RBI single by TJ Moussette (Centereach, N.Y./Newfield) in the top of the sixth brought the Bears to 7-3 before the hosts crossed double figures in the bottom half of the frame.

Sean Schneeberg's (Columbia, Tenn./Del Oro) double and Miguel Toribio's (Brooklyn, N.Y./Williamsburg Prep) single in the seventh cut the SJBK deficit to 10-5 but the Valiants held on for the game-one win.

How it Happened (Game 2)

The second game started just like the first, a 1-1 stalemate after the first inning of play. However, the Valiants plated three runs in the second inning to lead 4-1.

A Schneeberg sacrifice fly kickstarted a five-run third inning for the navy and gray. With a pair of runners on for Louis Lombardi (Brooklyn, N.Y./St. Edmund Prep), the senior belted the first pitch he saw beyond the left field fence for his first home run of the season, to put the Bears ahead, 5-4. The inning capped off with a 6-4 edge for SJBK.

The hosts brought the game to 6-5 before a two-RBI double down the left field line put the Valiants in the driver's seat for good. An RBI single in the fifth and a trio of RBI doubles in the sixth saw Manhattanville seal their 12-6 triumph.
