Leary Records 100th Career Hit in Baseball's Split with Farmingdale State

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Senior third baseman Chris Leary (Floral Park, N.Y./Floral Park Memorial) became the latest member to join the 100-hit club in St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) baseball program history on Monday evening. His two-RBI double contributed to the Bears' 8-6 game-one win over Farmingdale State College.

The hosts came out on top in a run-rule shortened game two, 11-1.

How it Happened (Game 1)

The Rams jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after picking up runs in each of the first two innings. Leary's milestone hit came in the third as he doubled to right field, scoring Doug Paider (Glendale, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) and Carmine Carbone (Middle Village, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) to tie the contest at two.

The hosts reclaimed the lead in the bottom of the third before the rookie tandem of Carbone and Matt Arcati (Brooklyn, N.Y./Williamsburg Prep) were responsible for driving in three of the Bears' four runs in the fourth to hold a 6-3 advantage.

FSC responded with a pair of homers to trim their deficit to one, ultimately tying the game at six in the bottom of the sixth.

Michael Gardener (Farmingdale, N.Y./Farmingdale) smacked a two-RBI triple into the right-center field gap, giving the navy and gray the lead and eventual 8-6 triumph.

How it Happened (Game 2)

A scoreless first inning was followed by a pair of Farmingdale State three-run innings in the second and fourth, with two runs in the third sandwiched in between.

Gardener's RBI double in the top of the sixth saw the Bears pull back a run but the Rams scored three additional runs to see out the 11-1 run-rule win.
