Baseball Concludes Non-Conference Slate with Defeat to NYU

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) baseball team dropped a 14-3 decision to New York University on Thursday evening from the SIUH Community Park on Staten Island.

How it Happened

A trio of two-RBI hits, including a home run to dead center, gave the Violets a 6-0 advantage after the first inning. Entering in the latter portion of the stanza, Jake McDonald (Lynbrook, N.Y./Lynbrook) tossed 3.1 innings of scoreless relief.

NYU's lead grew to 8-0 in the fifth courtesy of a pair of infield singles.

Tailing 9-0, Justin Biordi's (Howard Beach, N.Y./Scholars' Academy) triple to left field, sending Chris Perez (Bronx, N.Y./Mount Saint Michael Academy) and Alex Feliz (Bronx, N.Y./Manhattan Center for Science and Math) home. Biordi scored later in the frame to cut the host's lead to 9-3.

The Violets ultimately extended their lead to 14-3 thanks to a five-run bottom of the eighth, holding on to the result.

For the Bears

  • Lucas Collet (Toulouse, France/Lyc'ee Bellevue) joined Biordi with an RBI.

  • Starter Matt McHugh (East Islip, N.Y./East Islip) was handed the defeat on the mound.
