Linitz Selected as Skyline Baseball Rookie of the Week

NEW YORK — St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) freshman Kevin Linitz (Flushing, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) has been named the Skyline Conference Baseball Rookie of the Week, the league announced earlier today in their first weekly report of the season.

Linitz opened his collegiate career with a 3-for-5 effort on Saturday, knocking a pair of doubles, driving in two runs and scoring just as many as the Bears were edged out in extra innings by Wesley College.

The freshman started all three games in centerfield where he was perfect in 14 chances, also recording an outfield assist. At the plate, he finished 5-for-13 (.385), one of only two Bears to hit successfully in all three games of the series (John Condon). He was also a perfect 2-for-2 in his stolen base attempts.

In a tight series that saw all three games decided by just one run, St. Joseph's returned home with a 1-2 record after suffering two losses in Wesley's final at bat. The Bears will resume play this weekend with a pair of doubleheaders facing the College of Staten Island on Saturday starting at noon before hosting Lehman College on Sunday in the inaugural games in their new home, American Legion Fields.
