Bears Lose to Clark in Greenbelt Classic Consolation

(WASHINGTON, DC)  Senior Ervin Maddox (Staten Island, NY / St. Peter's) scored 24 points in a 90-74 loss to Clark University in the consolation game 2009 Catholic University / Residence Inn Greenbelt Classic.  Men's basketball is currently on a three-game skid and falls to 4-8 while Clark improves to 6-5.

St. Joe's started the game building a slight 5 point lead, but a 19-4 run from the Cougars had the Bears down 11 halfway through the opening 20.  A 6-0 run at in the final 1:30 extended the Clark lead to its largest margin of 15, 49-34, heading into the locker rooms.  Clark scored almost half of their points from long range, connecting on 8-for-14 from three-point land.

The second stanza had both teams fairly even, but St. Joseph's was unable to cut into the Clark lead never getting any closer than the 15 they trailed at halftime.  For the game the Bears shot an improved 49.2% over the opening round match, but couldn't match the 55.5% with 50% from three that the Cougars posted.  St. Joseph's found it difficult to match Clark's deep bench which accounted for 42 of their points with 15 players seeing significant minutes and 12 players scoring at least two points.

Maddox dished out four assists and grabbed two rebounds and was named to the All-Tournament Team averaging 18.0 points and 3.5 assists for the two game stretch.  Sophomore Justin Gist (Brooklyn, NY / Newsome) netted 16 points and grabbed six boards and dished out four assists.  Seniors Przemyslaw Kudla (Brooklyn, NY / St. John's Prep) and Luke Klimaszewski (Queens, NY / St. John's Prep) added 11 and 10 points each.  Clark was paced by Jack Minister (18 points) and Peter Normandin (12 points, 5 rebounds).
