Gist & Matzelle Named to AD3I All-Independent Teams

KANSAS CITY, MO – In a press release announcing the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Men's Basketball All-Independent Teams, Justin Gist (Newsome, FL/Newsome) was selected AD3I Second Team All-Independent and Jon Matzelle (Maspeth, NY/St. Francis Prep) was selected AD3I Honorable Mention All-Independent.

Gist, who is named to the Second Team All-Independent for the second straight year, led St. Joseph's in scoring average (18.1), assists per game (3.1) and steals per game (2.2).  The junior guard from Newsome, FL finished in double-figures in all but one game, recorded one double-double this season and had six games with 20 or more points.  Gist tallied a season-high 27 points in both the semifinals and championship of the Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference Tournament, earning himself Tournament MVP honors and leading the Bears to their second HVMAC title.  Gist was also named USCAA Honorable Mention All-American and HVMAC All-Conference.

Matzelle led the team in rebounds (7.9) and blocks (0.5) and minutes (29.3) and was ranked second in scoring (12.2) and field goal percentage (.406).  Across AD3I, the junior forward was ranked third in rebounding.  The St. Francis Prep product recorded seven double-doubles and had four games with 20 or more points highlighted by a 20 point, 19 rebound performance against 2010 NCAA Tournament qualifier, Brooklyn College.  Matzelle was also selected to the HVMAC All-Conference Team.

The All-Independent men's basketball teams were selected by the men's basketball coaches from AD3I member schools.
