Lancaster Bible Charges Past Bears

LANCASTER, PA – The St. Joseph's College men's basketball team fell to the Lancaster Bible Chargers 80-61 in an AD3I contest on Saturday afternoon at the Horst Athletic Center.  Lancaster Bible opened with a 15-4 run and the Bears were unable to keep pace with Chargers who shot 49 percent for the game.

Junior Justin Gist (Newsome, FL/Newsome) led St. Joseph's (4-13) with 16 points on 7-for-20 shooting and grabbing four rebounds.  Antoine Forehand (New York, NY/Rice) added 14 points and dished out a game-high tying four assists.  Senior Mike Dziewit (Ridgewood, NY/Wadleigh) scored a season-high 13 points, making his second straight start.

Carl Edwards paced Lancaster Bible (8-10) with a 21 point, 14 rebound double-double and four steals.  Keith Keltner and Kevin Keltner added 14 points each, while Eric Nulf chipped in 12 points to round out four Chargers in double-figures.

Lancaster Bible utilized the deep threat to separate from St. Joseph's.  The Chargers made three of their six first-half triples in the first four minutes to build a double digit lead.  A Forehand three-pointer cut the deficit to nine, 24-15, at the 7:10 mark, but Lancaster Bible pulled away again, taking a 41-25 lead at the break.

In the second stanza, the Chargers maintained their high shooting percentage (52 percent) and the Bears would never come closer than their halftime deficit.

Lancaster Bible held a 47-25 rebounding advantage and outscored St. Joseph's in second chance scoring 21-9 and points off turnovers 23-16.

St. Joseph's returns to action on Monday, February 1 hosting City College of New York at Brooklyn Technical High School.  Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 pm.
