BROOKLYN, NY – St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) freshman forward David Louison has been named the D3hoops.com 2012 Atlantic Region Men's Basketball Rookie of the Year as selected by a group of sports information directors in the region.

Louison adds to an impressive resume he compiled from an outstanding rookie campaign where he led the Bears in rebounding, grabbing 10.3 boards per game, and was the second leading scorer, tallying 12.3 points a clip.

The Brooklyn, NY native has already collected Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) Rookie of the Year and First-Team All-Independent honors, United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) All-American honorable mention, and Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) All-Conference honors.

Throughout the season, the St. Edmund Prep product was ranked among the Division III leaders, ranked as high as 10th and finishing 23rd in the nation in rebounding and tied for 36th in double-doubles (10), the third highest ranked freshman in both categories. Louison was also a four-time AD3I Player of the Week and a five-time HVMAC Rookie of the Week, garnering the most selections by a men's basketball student-athlete for either honor this season.

Louison is the first Bear or Lady Bear in any sport to receive a major year-end accolade from D3hoops.com or related D3sports.com network sites. The atlantic region for men's basketball is composed of 31 member schools.

Louison becomes eligible for the D3hoops.com All-America Rookie of the Year honor, competing against the other seven regional rookies of the year, which will be announced later this week.
