Megafu Sweeps Men's Basketball Player of the Week Honors

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Freshman guard/forward Michael Megafu (Brooklyn, NY/Nazareth Regional) has been named the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA), the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) and the Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) men's basketball Player of the Week for games played through December 9th after recording the first 30-point, 20-rebound game in Bears history and leading the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's basketball to a 2-0 record.

The freshman posted 31 points on a blistering 14-for-17 shooting, while grabbing 20 rebounds and swatting away three shots as the Bears beat their sibling rival St. Joseph's College (Long Island), 90-87, in double overtime for Brooklyn's first win over the Patchogue in over ten years.

For the week, Megafu averaged 21.5 points and 16.5 rebounds, also posting a double-double in a victory against Bard, and is currently ranked tied for No. 2 in Division III in double-doubles with six, for games played through Sunday. In the latest NCAA statistical rankings released yesterday, Megafu also ranks 12th in rebounding, averaging 11.5 caroms per game and ranks 24th in field goal percentage, shooting at a 63.4 percent connect rate.

The Player of the Week honors are the first of Megafu's career who was named HVMAC Rookie of the Week on November 20th. The freshman follows sophomore David Louison (Brooklyn, NY/St. Edmund Prep) who was named AD3I Player of the Week the last two weeks.

Megafu and the Bears return to the hardwood on Monday, January 7th when they travel to Madison, NJ to take on Drew University in their first game of 2013. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
