Megafu Collects AD3I Player and HVMAC Rookie of the Week Honors

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – Freshman guard/forward Michael Megafu (Brooklyn, NY/Nazareth Regional) has been named the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) men's basketball Player of the Week for the second consecutive week and Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) Rookie of the Week after leading the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) to a win over Lehman College.

Megafu posted his seventh double-double of the season moving him into a tie for the nationwide lead for Division III -- alongside teammate David Louison (Brooklyn, NY/St. Edmund Prep) -- as he scored 21 points and brought down 18 boards in the Bears 65-56 victory over Lehman College. In St. Joseph's only game of the week, the freshman shot 10-of-17 from the field and increased his season shooting percentage to 63 percent, a category where he currently ranks 22nd in Division III.

The Bears have receieved AD3I Player of the Week honors four times this season, Megafu now a two-time winner and Louison also a two-time recipient. This is also Megafu's third HVMAC distinction, following up his Player of the Week award last week with his second Rookie of the Week honor.

The Bears currently ride a three-game winning streak, and have won six of their last seven games and sit at 8-3 overall.

Megafu and the Bears return to the hardwood on Monday, January 7th when they travel to Madison, NJ to take on Drew University in their first game of 2013. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m.
