O'Neill Takes Home AD3I and HVMAC Player of the Week Honors

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Freshman Matt O'Neill (Brooklyn, NY/St. Edmund Prep) has been named the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) and Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference (HVMAC) Player of the Week after setting career highs twice this week.

O'Neill averaged 19.3 points on 48 percent shooting (20-42), 4.7 steals, 4.0 assists and 3.0 rebounds over a three-game stretch for St. Joseph's. The guard opened the week up with an 11-point, 9-steal and 7-assist performance playing only 14 minutes in the Bears' 114-61 victory over The King's College.

He followed that up by scoring a career-high 20 points against Brooklyn College, only to best that mark with 27 points against HVMAC rival Berkeley College, which included a game-tying triple with 19 seconds remaining, before the Bears fell on a last-second shot.

O'Neill has reached double-digit points in eight of his last ten games and has been the Bears' leading scorer since entering the lineup eight games ago in against the College of Staten Island.

The Player of the Week awards are the first for O'Neill who was named HVMAC Rookie of the Week on January 16th. The AD3I honor is the sixth for a Bear this season with David Louison (Brooklyn, NY/St. Edmund Prep) having won three times and Michael Megafu (Brooklyn, NY/Nazareth Regional) a two-time recipient. The weekly HVMAC accolade is the second earned by a Bear this season with Megafu having earned the conference accolade in December.

St. Joseph's returns to action when they travel to Bronxville for a HVMAC matchup against Sarah Lawrence tomorrow with tip-off slated for 7:00 pm.
