Rogowski, Louison and Megafu HVMAC All-Conference Selections, Cocozello Coach of the Year

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – After finishing second in the regular season in the Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference and runner-up in the HVMAC Tournament, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's basketball team has been honored with three All-Conference Team selections, senior Jan Rogowski (Woodside, NY/St. John's Prep), sophomore David Louison (Brooklyn, NY/St. Edmund Prep) and freshman Michael Megafu (Brooklyn, NY/Nazareth Regional). The conference also announced that head coach Joseph Cocozello has been awarded the Coach of the Year as voted on by the conference head coaches.

Rogowski concludes his career with his second All-Conference selection having also received the honor in his sophomore year. The senior finished third on the team averaging 9.7 points and brought down 4.0 rebounds per game. The guard/forward stepped up in conference play averaging 1.0 poing during the five games he played in helping lead the Bears to a 5-1 HVMAC record and No. 2 seed in the HVMAC Tournament. Rogowski was a threat from long-range connecting on 32 percent of his attempts (35-of-108) and hit five trifectas against Albany Pharmacy and in the Bears big win over Apprentice.

David Louison was named All-Conference for the second straight year averaging a double-double on the season with a team-high 13.8 points and 11.7 rebounds. He has been nationally ranked in Division III and is in the top 10 in rebounds per game and his 13 double-doubles place him in the top 10 as well. The forward averaged 32.0 minutes and shot an efficient 49 percent (153-of-312) from the field.

Louison was a four-time AD3I Player of the Week winner and took home the AD3I Student-Athlete of the Month award for the month of November. The sophomore was named HVMAC Player of the Week for the week of February 12th after recording his second 20-point, 20-rebound performance against Lancaster Bible.

Joining Louison and Rogowski as a HVMAC All-Conference selection is freshman Michael Megafu. Megafu finished his rookie season averaging a double-double with 12.2 points and 11.2 rebounds per game. He is currently ranked in the top 10 in Division III in rebounding, and double-doubles (15) while his team-leading 57 percent (133-of-235) shooting from the field ranks him in the top 50.

The guard/forward had his best game of the year at the Bears arch-rival St. Joseph's (L.I.) where he posted the first 30-point, 20-rebound performance in Bears history scoring 31 points while corralling 20 rebounds. The freshman was named USCAA Player of the Week for the week ending December 10th and was named AD3I Player of the Week twice while also being selected as AD3I Student-Athlete of the Month for December. Megafu took home the HVMAC Player of the Week for the week ending December 10th and was a three-time HVMAC Rookie of the Week selection.  

After leading the team to a 16-11 record, head coach Joseph Cocozello has been named HVMAC Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his career. The 16 wins are the most for a Bears team since the 2006-07 season. Cocozello has led the Bears to eight-straight HVMAC championship games and will be taking St. Joseph's to United States Collegiate Athletic Association National Tournament for the first time since 2006-07 when the team finished 21-11.
