Louison's USCAA All-American & All-Academic Selection Highlights Four Receiving USCAA Year-End Honors

Louison's USCAA All-American & All-Academic Selection Highlights Four Receiving USCAA Year-End Honors

UNIONTOWN, Pa. – At the banquet commencing the 2013 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Basketball Championships, sophomore David Louison (Brooklyn, NY/St. Edmund Prep) became the third St. Joseph's College student-athlete in school history to receive both USCAA All-American and National All-Academic honors. Freshman Michael Megafu (Brooklyn, NY/Nazareth Regional) received All-American honorable mention and John Moore (Glendale, NY/Archbishop Molloy) and Matt Marino (Fort Wayne, IN/Rutherford) were also named to the National All-Academic Team.

Louison, only a sophomore, adds to a growing list of accolades and was a USCAA All-American honorable mention in his rookie year and named to the Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference All-Conference team last week. The forward was among the USCAA leaders ranking No. 2 in rebounding (11.7 rpg), No. 30 in scoring (13.8 ppg), No. 33 in field goal percentage (49%) and #10 in blocks (1.3 bpg). Louison recorded 13 double-doubles, including two 20-point, 20-rebound performances, and set career-highs in rebounds, points, and blocked shots.

Louison is also the first Bear to be named All-American since Mike Donnelly in 2007. Louison earns All-Academic honors for the first time in his career, this being the first year eligible for the honor. He follows Kathleen O'Neill '05 (softball) and Danielle Marino '13 (softball) as the only SJC student athletes to collect both All-American and All-Academic honors in the same season.

In his rookie campaign for the Bears, Megafu averaged 12.2 ppg and was ranked No. 3 among USCAA leaders in rebounding (11.2 rpg) and No. 11 in field goal percentage (56.6%). The freshman had 15 double-doubles on the year. The guard/forward had the first 30-point, 20-rebound performance in Bears history in St. Joseph's win over arch-rival St. Joseph's (L.I.) in December, which resulted in an USCAA Player of the Week selection. Megafu was also the lone freshman recognized to the Men's Division I First-Team, Second-Team or Honorable Mention All-Americans.

Marino appeared in eight games and averaged 6.0 points per game, scoring a season-high 10 points against the Culinary Institute of America. Moore appeared in 10 games and set a new school single-game record, swatting away five shots in the Bears win over Culinary along with pouring in a career-high-tying seven points. Marino and Moore earn the National All-Academic honors for the second straight year.

The Bears begin their quest for their first national championship tomorrow vs. No. 1 Rochester College with a first-round matchup tipping off at 2 p.m.
