Megafu Collects HVIAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week Honors

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Sophomore Michael Megafu (Brooklyn, N.Y./Nazareth Regional) added to his growing list of accolades this season as he was named the Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) men's basketball Player of the Week after leading the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's basketball team in scoring and rebounding during the week.

Megafu averaged a near double-double against 2013 USCAA National Championship qualifiers Southern Virginia University and The Apprentice School. The sophomore guard/forward who played 79 out of the possible 80 minutes on the weekend, highlighted his week with 18 points, seven rebounds, four blocks and three steals against Southern Virginia, helping the Bears set a new team single-game blocks record.

Megafu finished off the week with his third double-double of the season, dropping in 10 points and securing 12 boards while contributing three assists and two rejections. For the week, the sophomore averaged 14.0 points per game, 9.5 rebounds per game and swatted away 3.0 shots per contest.

Last season's HVIAC All-Conference Team selection earns Player of the Week accolades from the HVIAC for the second time in his career. Megafu has received all three awards given to Bears this season having earned AD3I and USCAA Player of the Week last week.

St. Joseph's (2-4) returns to action tonight as they host The King's College in their 2013-14 home and HVIAC openers at Brooklyn Technical High School with the action set to get underway at 9 p.m. following the women's game.
