Megafu and Marino Receive Skyline Honor Roll Recognition

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Recognizing a three-week stretch where the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's and women's basketball teams both went 2-0, senior Michael Megafu (Jamaica, N.Y./Nazareth Regional) and sophomore Destiny Marino (Middle Village, N.Y./Christ the King) were both named to the Skyline Conference honor roll for games played December 14 to January 3 as the league's weekly sports report was released earlier today.

Megafu shot 55.6 percent (15-27) and averaged 19.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in leading the Bears to a pair of wins over Yeshiva University and City College of New York to close out the year on a two-game win streak. The senior led the team in scoring in both contests netting 20 points with seven rebounds versus Yeshiva and tallying 19 points with 10 rebounds against CCNY for his seventh double-double of the season, one off the national lead.

A one-time Player of the Week this season, Megafu earns honor roll recognition for the first time and currently leads the Skyline in rebounds (11.3) and blocks (2.1).

Marino averaged 22.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 4.5 steals in leading the Lady Bears to victories over Yeshiva University and New Jersey City University. The sophomore scored 16 of her 22 points in the second half to help the Lady Bears rally from a 12-point deficit to Yeshiva. Against NJCU, Marino fell one assist shy of becoming only the third Lady Bear to reach double-digit assists, handing out a career-high nine helpers with a game-high-tying 23 points.

Also a one-time Player of the Week this season, Marino lands on the league honor roll for the third time and has scored over 20-or-more points in four of her last five games placing her third in the league in scoring (18.5).

Both the Bears (6-4, 4-3 Skyline) and Lady Bears (3-10, 2-3 Skyline) resume Skyline Conference action tonight at Purchase College seeking their third straight triumphs. The women lead off the twin bill at 6 p.m. followed by the men at 8 p.m. with live stats on SJCBears.com.
