Medy Claims Skyline Rookie of the Week Honors

NEW YORK — Recognizing his 35-point outburst in St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) overtime victory on Saturday, freshman Bryan Medy (Brooklyn, N.Y./Nazareth Regional) has been selected as the Skyline Conference men's basketball Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office earlier today.

A new addition to the team over the break, Medy erupted for game-highs of 35 points and 11 rebounds in his second collegiate game to lift the Bears (4-8, 3-5) to a road conference victory over Purchase College—last year's runner-up—on Saturday.

Medy completed his first collegiate double-double in just 28 minutes off the bench, shooting an efficient 12-of-21 from the field and 10-of-11 from the free-throw line. The rookie led all scorers in the overtime session, scoring seven points as St. Joseph's pulled away for a 105-98 triumph. The 35 points were the most scored by a rookie in 17 seasons under Head Coach Joseph Cocozello and it was the first 30-plus-point game logged by a Bear in under 30 minutes of playing time.

The weekly award is the first garnered by a Bear since the 2016-17 season, when Stephane Etheart, Dimitri Sirakis, and Kavan Meiner all collected Rookie of the Week accolades.

Riding a three-game win streak—their longest in three seasons—the Bears open a two-game stretch at The Hill Center, welcoming sibling rivals St. Joseph's (Long Island) to Brooklyn on Tuesday, January 8 for a 7 p.m. tip-off in the nightcap of a doubleheader with the women.
