Farmingdale State Spoils Men’s Basketball’s Win Streak

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Coming off of back-to-back victories, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's basketball team (8-13, 4-8) fell to Farmingdale State College (11-10, 7-5) at The Hill Center on Saturday afternoon, 81-64. Four Bears scored 10-plus points in the game, but it wasn't enough as they dropped both in the season series with Farmingdale.

How It Happened
The opening minutes of this one looked as if it could be neck-and-neck throughout after rookie Chris Edwards (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) buried a jumper at 14:46 to bring the Bears within three (10-7). SJC even took the lead just after the 11-minute mark on a pair of freebies from Matt McQuillen (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's) that brought the score to 13-12.

However, Anthony Miller Jr. canned a shot just a couple of minutes later as the exclamation point to nine unanswered to retake the lead and swing the momentum in the first half. The Rams remained in control for the rest of the period and even extended the lead to double-digits, but senior Stephane Etheart (Hollis, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) hit a jumper with 14 seconds remaining to bring the Bears within eight (39-31) at the break.

Sebastien Etheart (Hollis, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) scored first in the second half which cut the deficit to six as the Bears seemed poised to come back early in the frame. FSC kept them at bay for the most part but St. Joseph's didn't allow them to run away with it as Frank Reali (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan Wagner) drained a long-ball that brought the score to 50-41 with 13:40 remaining.

Farmingdale maintained their advantage down the stretch, however, as the Bears continuously cut the score to single-digits but never came closer than eight in a losing effort at home in which they missed 14 free-throws.
