Men's Basketball Suffers Road Set Back to Lehman

BRONX, N.Y. — Chris Williams (Trenton, N.J./Nottingham) put up 22 points on 7-of-13 shooting, leading a Bears quartet in points. However, the St. Joseph's University, NY (Brooklyn) men's basketball team suffered fell to Lehman College, 87-76 on Wednesday night.

How it Happened

The Bears (2-4) kept pace with the Lightning (4-2) for much of the first half falling behind by no more than five points and trimming the deficit to as little as one, 16-15. From there, the hosts shot 70 percent from beyond the arc, propelling them to a 55-32 lead at the intermission.

At the seven-minute mark in the second stanza, Lehman took their largest lead of the night, 78-54. St. Joseph's mounted a comeback with a Williams layup. The sophomore poured in 14 of his 22 points towards the latter stages of the half as it, along with Adam Jasaraj (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan Wagner) and Joseph Abraham (Staten Island, N.Y./Gaynor McCown) combining for eight in the stretch, whittled the Lightning's lead to single digits, 85-76. Lehman ultimately held on for the 11-point win.

For the Bears

  • Williams' 22 points came off the bench. He shot 4-of-6 from three-point land.
  • Evan Sirakis (Hollis Hills, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) totaled 16 points to go with three assists and as many steals.
  • Jasaraj dropped 11 on 5-of-6 from the field and was a rebound away from a double-double. He also had three assists.
  • Jonathan Reno (Staten Island, N.Y./Moore Catholic) rounded out the SJBK quartet in double figures, scoring 10. He also had five dimes and takeaways.
  • Joe Sheehan (Staten Island, N.Y./Gaynor McCown) also had a near-double-double, finishing with eight points and six boards.
