Mount Saint Vincent Tops Men's Basketball

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Despite three reaching double figures in scoring, the St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) men's basketball team dropped a 93-80 result to the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon at The Hill Center.

How it Happened

Dan Porcic gave the Dolphins (11-10, 6-5) an early 5-0 lead but Joe Sheehan (Staten Island, N.Y./Gaynor McCown) and Anderson Beltre (East Elmhurst, N.Y./Holy Cross) tied the game less than a minute later. Back-to-back triples from Evan Sirakis (Hollis Hills, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) inside of the 15-minute mark gave the Bears (5-16, 2-10) a 15-13 edge but the visitors regained the lead on a Porcic three-pointer. The CMSV advantage grew to double figures with eight minutes on the clock but an 8-2 run brought the deficit back down to eight at 1:54, 43-35. A Dolphin trey with 77 seconds left in the stanza resulted in a 46-35 score at the intermission.

Mount Saint Vincent saw their largest lead of the afternoon at 10:32 in the second half, 75-51. At that point, Joshua Gordon (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Loughlin) and Justin Nazon (Staten Island, N.Y./Susan Wagner) paced the team SJBK during a 14-2 run to close the gap to 77-55. The Bears came to within 10 on a Gordon jumper with 1:04 remaining in regulation but the Dolphins pulled away to claim the 93-80 result.
