Men’s Soccer Upended by Vaughn

FLUSHING, NY – St. Joseph's men's soccer struggled to put together an offensive attack, as they were defeated 4-0 by the Vaughn Warriors. The loss puts the Bears at 1-5 overall and 1-3 in the Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference.

The Warriors got on the board early thanks to a penalty shot by Oscar Vazquez in the 11th minute. Vaughn was able to find the back of the net again in the first half when Oluwafemi Fasoye buried a shot in the 27th minute to give the Warriors a two-goal lead.

St. Joseph's was able to hang around for most of the game, trailing by only two goals, until Vazquez nailed the clincher for the Warriors on an assist from Juan Montoya, his second goal of the game. Nique Irving added the fourth Warrior goal in the 86th minute to cap the shutout.

The Bears rattled off 11 shots, eight on goal led by Gabriel Gonzalez (Guayaquil, Ecuador/25 de Agosto). Derrick Akwei (Bronx, NY/Port Angeles HS) and Raul Urshela (Orlando, FL/Colonial) were the only other Bears to register shots.

St. Joseph's is back in action on Thursday, October 13th as they travel to the Bronx to take on Lehman. The night game kicks off at 7:00 pm.
