Three Bears Receive Year-End AD3I Soccer Honors

OVERLAND PARK, KS – After finishing their first varsity season, St. Joseph's soccer team was rewarded by the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) with three players garnering post-season recognition. Raul Urshela (Orlando, FL/Colonial) was named the association's Rookie of the Year and was named first team forward, while goalkeeper Michael Miner (Schenevus, NY/Schenevus) and forward Gabriel Gonzalez (Guayaquil, Ecuador/25 de Agosto) were named honorable mention at their respective positions.

Urshela was the Bears' number one scoring threat. He connected on nine goals and scored a record four goals in the programs first win. His 18 points led the team and were second in the AD3I and his nine goals tied him for the most in the conference. Of his 29 shots on goal, nine found the back of the net for an impressive 31% shot percentage. He also finished with three multiple goal games.

Miner held strong all season as St. Joseph's last line of defense. Under constant attack, Miner helped keep the Bears close making 175 total saves. His 13.5 saves per game ranked second in NCAA Division III and tops in the AD3I. Miner finished the year making double-digit saves in nine of 13 games and had a career high 20 in a loss to Yeshiva. He was named the AD3I Player of the Week for the week ending October 31st.

Gonzalez finished second on the team in goals with five and points with 13 while also leading the Bears with three assists. He finished in the top ten in the AD3I in all three categories as well. Gonzalez scored the game-winning goal in the Bears first win in program history. He also found the back of the net twice on penalty kicks.
