Four Bears Named to HVMAC Fall All-Academic Team

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – In an announcement made by the Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference earlier today, St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) sophomore Marco Fuentes (Orlando, FL/Timber Creek), sophomore Raul Urshela (Orlando, FL/Colonial), junior John Moore (Glendale, NY/Archbishop Molloy) and junior Joe Mendez (Glendale, NY/St. Francis Prep) were all named to the 2012 Fall All-Academic Team recognizing their excellence in the field of play and in the classroom.

This is the first time that Fuentes, Urshela, and Mendez have been named to the All-Academic Team while Moore was named to the HVMAC All-Academic Team after playing for the men's basketball team a year ago. Fuentes, Urshela, and Moore were also recognized by the USCAA for their achievement in the classroom having been named to the USCAA National All-Academic Team for soccer with Moore also receiving the honor in basketball twice.

Fuentes is a defender on the soccer team and started 12 games on the season recording an assist against Fisher on October 21st.

Urshela played forward for the soccer team and was the team's leading scorer with seven goals while collecting two assists to finish the season with a team-high-tying 16 points on the season. The sophomore scored a season-high two goals against Berkeley on October 17th. Urshela was an HVMAC All-Conference selection and was named to the AD3I All-Independent First Team.

Moore split time between the soccer team and cross country team appearing in three soccer games and running in five races for the Bears. The junior had a season-best time of 42:17 in the 8K finishing 77th at the Ramapo Invitational.

Mendez starred on the cross country team appearing in four races. The junior had a season-best time of 37:42 in the 8K at the HVAC Championships finishing 30th.

The All-Academic Team consists of student-athletes who have reached sophomore academic standing and have earned a 3.5 cumulative grade point average or better at the conclusion of the fall semester, and participate in one of the conference's two fall sports, cross country and soccer.
