Cusu Releases Tough 2017 Men's Soccer Schedule

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — After matching the program record for victories last season, the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's soccer team looks forward to a 2017 18-game schedule that begins Labor Day Weekend at the CSI Kickoff Classic facing defending Classic champions New Jersey City University (September 2) and host College of Staten Island (September 3).

Leading the Bears to a seven-win improvement over their 2015 campaign, Head Coach Ovid Cusu returns for his second season with a tough non-conference slate to further the team's progress made last season. In 2016, Cusu led the Bears to a 7-11 mark overall and the program's first league wins in Skyline Conference play, finishing at 4-7 and up three places from where they were predicted in the preseason coaches' polls.

Following the CSI Kickoff Classic, St. Joseph's faces Baruch College in a road tilt on September 6 before hosting York College in a doubleheader with the women on September 9, opening a six-game home slate at Aviator Field.

The Bears then have three tough non-conference road tests before commencing league play.  The gauntlet of CUNYAC runner-up Hunter College (September 13), 2016 NCAA Championships participant Kean University (September 17), and MAC Freedom foe Manhattanvile University (September 20) in a span of one week provides the final tune-up before the Skyline portion of the schedule begins with a home game against the College of Mount Saint Vincent on September 23.

Also visiting Brooklyn are league foes Purchase College (October 3), SJC Long Island (October 11), defending champion USMMA (October 14), and Sarah Lawrence College (October 21).

The six-team Skyline Conference Championships open with first-round play on Saturday, October 28.
