Men’s Soccer Stumbles in Second Half to New Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Sophomore Alejandro Oliveros (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grover Cleveland) made seven first-have saves to help the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's soccer (2-6) team play even with New Jersey City University (5-2) for 45 minutes on the road, but the Gothic Knights scored early in the second and handed the Bears a 3-0 loss on Wednesday afternoon in their final tune-up before opening Skyline Conference play.

How It Happened

The Gothic Knights took to the offensive early, firing six shot attempts in just the first 11 minutes of the game. They held an 11-5 first-half shot advantage, with seven shots on goal but none would find the back of the net with Oliveros standing on his head making seven saves to preserve the scoreless frame.

Less than two minutes into the second stanza, the Gothic Knights broke the deadlock with Theo Sanoh taking an SJC turnover and curling it into the right corner of the net.

The Bears would search for the equalizer and managed eight shots on goal in the 2nd half—up from just one in the first—but couldn't place one into the cage. NJCU added an insurance goal in the 58th minute and went up 3-0 on an SJC own goal.

• Oliveros finished with a season-high 13 saves in a losing effort.

• Sophomore Kenneth Garcia (Elmhurst, N.Y./Bayside) lead the offense with 9 shots (4 on goal).
