Men’s Soccer Tripped Up by Manhattanville

PURCHASE, N.Y. — An early lead by the St. Joseph's University, NY (Brooklyn) men's soccer team, by way of Victor Naci (Bordeaux, France/Bernard Palissy), was evaporated thanks to Manhattanville College's four second-half goals in a 4-1 deficit on Thursday night in Purchase.

How it Happened

The Bears (2-3-2, 0-1-1) struck early as Francisco Garcia's (Brooklyn, N.Y./Park Slope Collegiate) corner found Naci in the box who headed in the opening goal of the contest in the 15th minute, beating the Manhattanville (3-3-1, 1-0) goalkeeper's weak side. With five minutes remaining in the half, Naci nearly added a second but the navy and gray held on to the advantage.

The Valiants found an equalizer less than 10 minutes into the second stanza. At 61', the hosts took the lead when Trevor Henderson scored on a set piece; adding the Valiants' third a minute later. Manhattanville's 4-1 result was confirmed in the 64th minute.

For the Bears

  • Naci scored for the fifth-consecutive match, increasing his season tally to eight.

  • Garcia picked up his team-leading third assist.

  • Leonel Bravo (Astoria, N.Y./Queens Vocational & Technical) made a pair of saves, matching his Manhattanville counterpart.
