Naci Sets Single-Season Scoring Record with Hat Trick as Men's Soccer Rolls Past Old Westbury

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — For the second time in as many matches, Victor Naci (Bordeaux, France/Bernard Palissy) bagged a hat trick as he led the St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) men's soccer team rolled past the SUNY College at Old Westbury, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon at Aviator Field. With 19 goals to his name, Naci's first goal broke the program's single-season scoring record that was previously set by Kenneth Garcia in 2018.

Lorenzo LaRosa (Astoria, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) and Pablo Mejia (Elmhurst, N.Y./Academy of Finance and Enterprise) rounded out the goals for the Bears (5-4-3, 3-3-2).

How it Happened

Naci's record-setting goal came at 12' when he chipped the Panther (1-9-2, 0-6-2) goalkeeper courtesy of a Francisco Garcia (Brooklyn, N.Y./Park Slope Collegiate) throughball from midfield. Garcia, on a corner kick, found Naci in the box who's sissor-kick resulted in the second goal at 36'; giving the navy and gray a 2-0 edge come halftime.

The Bears quickly tacked on to their lead to begin the second half with LaRosa netting his first collegiate goal at 51'. LaRosa fed Naci with his third goal of the game five minutes past the hour mark, increasing the advantage to 4-0. The Bears' confirmed their 5-0 win in the 71st minute when Mejia scored from the penalty spot.

For the Bears

  • Naci is the first Bear to record multiple hat tricks, doing so in consecutive matches. He also set the single-season points record, also surpassing the aformentioned Garcia, with 41 points on the season.
  • Five of Naci's six shots found the face of goal.
  • Mejia, LaRosa, and Diego Volpe (Long Branch, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) combined for six shots and three shots on goal.
