Chimborazo Earns Skyline Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week

NEW YORK — Christian Chimborazo (Elmhurst, N.Y./Queens Technical) of the St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) men's soccer team earned his first career Skyline Conference Defensive Player of the Week honor. The announcement was made by the league office on Tuesday.

Chimborazo, a defender turned goalkeeper, made his first appearance between the sticks last Tuesday evening against Rutgers University-Newark. Holding the Scarlet Raiders to two goals for much of the contest, the sophomore recorded 16 saves; the most by a Bear in a single match since current assistant coach Alejandro Oliveros stopped 10 shots against the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in 2019.

Junior Victor Naci (Bordeaux, France/Bernard Palissy) scored off a set-piece in the 41st minute to earn a place on the Weekly Honor Roll for the second consecutive week.

Against Brooklyn College, Chimborazo came up with three saves in the first half prior to the match's suspension due to inclement weather. The Bears hold a 1-0 lead courtesy of a Francisco Garcia (Brooklyn, N.Y./Park Slope Collegiate) goal in the 15th minute. Subject to change, the match is slated to resume on Thursday, September 14 at 4:30 pm.
