Men's Soccer Preserves Clean Sheet Against Brooklyn College; Weekend Schedule Update

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) men's soccer team defeated Brooklyn College, 1-0, on Thursday evening.

How it Happened

Originally scheduled for Saturday, September 9, inclement weather forced the initial postponement of the contest. When the two teams took the field two days later, the Bears got on the mark inside 15 minutes. From midfield, Francisco Garcia (Brooklyn, N.Y./Park Slope Collegiate) beat out numerous Bulldog defenders to score the game's first goal. At the end of the first half, the skies opened up and – with lightning in the area and field conditions deemed unplayable – the match was suspended.

Following a 10-day wait and a pair of matches in between, the contest resumed with the start of the second half. Upon the restart, the navy and gray were presented with more attacking chances but could not convert; outscoring the hosts 5-2 in that department. The hosts' lone shot on goal was saved by Lorenzo LaRosa (Astoria, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) as the Bears held on to the 1-0 finish.

For the Bears

  • Christian Chimborazo (Elmhurst, N.Y./Queens Technical) began the match in goal and made three saves.

  • Victor Naci (Bordeaux, France/Bernard Palissy) led the team with four shots, two on target.

  • Garcia and Diego Volpe (Long Branch, N.J./Red Bank Catholic) each took two shots.
