Garcia, Naci Link Up in Men's Soccer's Defeat of Mount Saint Vincent

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) men's soccer team snapped their three-match losing streak in Skyline Conference play as they defeated the College of Mount Saint Vincent, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon from Aviator Field.

How it Happened

Bryan Lucero (Brooklyn, N.Y./High School of Telecommunication Arts & Technology) fired off a match-high four shots during the first half but the overly physical period resulted in a scoreless draw.

A little over 20 minutes into the second half, Francisco Garcia (Brooklyn, N.Y./Park Slope Collegiate) dished a ball to Victor Naci (Bordeaux, France/Bernard Palissy) inside the 18-yard box, who poked it past the Dolphin keeper to give the Bears a 1-0 edge. The navy and gray continue to apply pressure in the attack, registering eight shots since Naci's goal. However, the Bears walked away from their 2023 home opener with their first triumph in conference play.

For the Bears

  • Naci scored his fourth goal of the season and first since Baruch in early September.

  • Garcia saw his third-straight goal involvement in as many matches.

  • Naci took a match-leading eight shots on the afternoon, six of which came in the second half.

  • Lucero had the second most shots over the 90' with five.

  • Lorenzo LaRosa (Astoria, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) finished with four saves.
