Men's Soccer Falls to St. Joseph’s (LI) on Senior Day

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — The St. Joseph's University, N.Y. (Brooklyn) men's soccer team was dealt a 2-0 defeat by St. Joseph's (Long Island) on Sunday afternoon from Aviator Field.

Frank Rivera (Astoria, N.Y./Gramercy Arts), Alex Helfant (Quito, Ecuador/Alliance Academy International), and Leonel Bravo (Astoria, N.Y./Queens Technical) were honored during Senior Day ceremonies prior to kickoff.

How it Happened

The Golden Eagles needed nine minutes to open the scoring, courtesy of Vincent Mariani. They nearly added a second layer in the half but the shot pinged off the woodwork.

While the Bears kept their opposition off the board for the better part of an hour, they could not draw the game level; despite firing 10 shots compared to Patchogue's nine. Mariani scored his second in the 74th minute to give Long Island a 2-0 triumph.
