Men's Tennis Falls to Yeshiva in Opener

FLUSHING, NY – The St. Joseph's College men's tennis team opened their 2010 season dropping a 7-2 decision to Yeshiva University (1-3) at the USTA National Tennis Center on Wednesday evening.  Sophomore Muhammad Ali Bhatti (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) carried the Bears in defeat, picking up St. Joseph's only two points in the match.

Bhatti resumed his strong play in his rookie campaign where he won four singles matches, tying the team lead, and six doubles matches, all with partner senior Ed Han (McLean, VA/W.T. Woodson).  Bhatti earned a 10-5 victory over Adam Weiss at second singles and teamed up again with Han for an 8-4 victory at first doubles.

Han fell just short in his match at first singles, losing 10-8 to Seth Nayowitz.

Sophomore Anthony Grasso (Jackson Heights, NY/St. John's Prep) also had a strong performance, falling 10-5 to Jonathan Stern at fifth singles.

St. Joseph's (0-1) returns to action on Saturday, March 27th, travelling to the Bronx to take on Lehman College in a non-conference match.
