Bears Tennis Shutout by Cooper Union

FLUSHING, NY – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's tennis team suffered a 9-0 setback to reigning Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference champions Cooper Union on Wednesday night at the USTA National Tennis Center.

Cooper Union (5-1, 3-1 HVMAC) took love victories in all but three matches with Jeff Bonowicz (Whitestone, NY/Holy Cross) and Danny Contant (Staten Island, NY/Xaverian) providing the closest and longest match of the night in a 8-4 loss at #3 doubles. Bonowicz later stole a game from Raymond Wong at #5 singles in a 10-1 loss, his first singles defeat of the season.  James Hanophy (Albertson, NY/Holy Trinity HS) took two games off his #4 singles opponent Vasily Kukesenkov falling 10-2. 

The Bears (0-9, 0-4 HVMAC) return to the National Tennis Center on Tuesday, May 1st hosting Webb Institute at 7 p.m.
