Men's Tennis Downs Vaughn Winning Second Straight; Parr Sets New Win Streak Mark

FRESH MEADOWS, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's tennis team locked up their best league finish in program history defeating Vaughn College, 7-2, on Thursday evening in a Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) match at the Cunningham Park Tennis Center.

The Bears (2-10, 2-2 HVIAC) register their second straight victory and win two conference matches for the first time in school history. The seven-point total matches the highest point total, recorded three times previously.

Nolan Parr (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook Central) won in both singles and doubles for the fourth straight match setting a new program record with eight straight wins. Four different Bears went undefeated on the evening with Kyle Johnson (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook Central), Nick Orlando (Brooklyn, N.Y./Christ the King) and Dickson Tan (Brooklyn, N.Y./East-West School of International Studies) posting convincing victories.

Parr and Johnson teamed up for their fourth straight win at No. 2 doubles, 8-3, and Orlando and Tan cruised to an 8-1 victory at No. 3 doubles to give the Bears a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.

Parr posted his first career shutout at No. 4 singles, 10-0, as the Bears dominated singles play with Johnson and Orlando holding their opponents to two games, both winning 10-2 at No. 3 singles and No. 5 singles, respectively, to clinch the overall match win.

Tan secured his first singles win of the season, holding on for a 10-6 triumph at No. 6 singles and Kevin Caicedo (Jackson Heights, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) concluded the dual match with a 10-4 win at No. 2 singles.

Parr, Caicedo and Orlando each possess four singles wins on the season, the first time in team history three different players have reached the four-win mark in the same season. Orlando moves into third on the Bears all-time singles wins list.

St. Joseph's will try to secure a program-record third win, concluding the regular season against regular season champion and defending league champions Pratt Institute tomorrow at 4 p.m. at the Cunningham Park Tennis Center.
