Parr Receives All-HVIAC Men's Tennis Honors, Smith Named Rookie of the Year

BROOKLYN, N.Y.—Recognizing their outstanding play over the course of the season, junior Nolan Parr (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook Central) was named to the 2015 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Conference Men's Tennis Team and sophomore Matthew Smith (Brooklyn, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy) was named 2015 HVIAC Rookie of the Year as announced at the HVIAC Championships on Saturday.

Parr led the team with six singles victories, elevating to the No. 2 spot in the lineup. He also paced the team with five doubles victories playing primarily with Kyle Johnson (Red Hook, N.Y./Red Hook). The duo advanced to the No. 2 doubles finals in at the HVIAC Championships for the second straight year, falling in a hard-fought match in a tiebreaker. Parr receives All-HVIAC honors for the second straight year and is one of three repeat honorees on the team.

Smith was one of the most improved players on the team in his rookie campaign starting at the No. 4 singles position and moved up as high as No. 2 by the end of the season and played primarily in the top doubles flight with Kevin Caicedo (Jackson Heights, N.Y./Monsignor McClancy). Smith ranked second on the team tallying three singles victories.

The Bears concluded their 2015 campaign with a program-record three wins and fourth place in the HVIAC Championships.
