Ghai and Vaitzman Take Top Two Singles Matches in Men’s Tennis Duel With SJC Long Island
PATCHOGUE, N.Y. — Junior Shivam Ghai (Nairobi, Kenya/International School of Kenya) and freshman Daniel Vaitzman (Port Washington, N.Y. / Paul D. Schreiber) secured wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles but the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's tennis team was downed by St. Joseph's College (Long Island), 5-2, in Skyline Conference action Tuesday evening at the SJC Outdoor Field Complex.
Ghai raced out to a 6-0 lead in singles and after giving up a few games to his opponent, he was able to finish strong, coming out with an 8-4 victory. Vaitzman was in full control and had his best performance of the season, winning the second singles match by an equal 8-4 margin.
Sophomore Valentina Velez Valencia (Brooklyn, N.Y./Bishop Kearney) played a hard-fought match and tested her opponent at No. 5 singles before but falling, 8-5.
The Bears (1-8, 0-7) will take on Kings County rivals Brooklyn College in a non-conference road match on Thursday, April 19. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
