Chalfin Elevated to Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — After serving a year and a half as an assistant coach, Jesse Chalfin has been selected as the next head coach of the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) men's and women's tennis teams effective immediately as announced by Director of Athletics and Recreation James Lally.

"We are excited to promote Jesse to the head coaching position for our tennis programs. Jesse has demonstrated a strong ability to teach the sport of tennis as well as mentor our student-athletes in all facets of their development," remarked Lally.

In two seasons with the women's team, Chalfin helped the development of Denise Trerotola who concluded her career as the winningest player in program history and finished as a three-time Skyline All-Conference selection.

"I am thrilled and thankful for the opportunity to take over the SJC tennis programs," commented Chalfin.  "I look forward to continuing to work with the student-athletes and take the tennis program to new heights."

A PTR Certified Tennis Professional, he has extensive teaching experience with adults and youth at the Woodstock Tennis Club, Prospect Park Tennis Center, Total Tennis, and Hockessin Indoor Tennis.

As a player, Chalfin competed in USTA Eastern Division tournaments before playing at the club level for the University of Delaware, where he competed at the club tennis national championship in Cary, North Carolina. During his time in Delaware, he formed and ran the first ever charity tennis tournament at the University, "Serving for the Cure," raising money for childhood cancer awareness and research.

After graduating Delaware with a Bachelors of Arts in Business Management and Entrepreneurial Studies in 2016, Chalfin continued his playing career in men's open tournaments and won the men's singles title at the Catskill Cup in 2017.

"Jesse has a strong vision for the future of tennis at SJC Brooklyn and we look forward to working with him and continuing to grow and develop our programs," concluded Lally.

The men's tennis team will open their 13-match 2019 slate on March 16, hosting York College at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
