Bears Volleyball Drops HVMAC Match to Yeshiva

BROOKLYN, NY  - After picking up their first win of the season, the St. Joseph's College men's volleyball dropped a straight-set decision (30-8, 30-6, 30-21) to Yeshiva University in a Hudson Valley Men's Athletic Conference match on Wednesday night at Brooklyn Technical High School. 

Freshman middle-hitter Martin Torres (Ozone Park, NY/St. Francis Prep), who was recently named HVMAC Rookie of the Week, led the St. Joseph's attack recording five kills with a solo block and a block assist.  Junior Mike Modugno (Astoria, NY/St. John's Prep) led defense with eight digs and added two kills.  Senior Ed Han (McLean, VA/W.T. Woodson) had six digs, dishing out four assists with two aces.

Yeshiva (9-5, 2-0 HVMAC) was led Zanvy Grauman who tallied 12 kills and hit .800 for the contest.  Joseph Bajtner dished out a game-high 36 assists, Howard Avner had 11 digs, and Jack Voystock had eight service aces.

The Bears had no answer for the Yeshiva attack that hit .440 for the match and served 20 aces.  St. Joseph's was overwhelmed in the first two sets, but found some life in the third set, taking an early 3-0 lead and scoring 21 points on the Maccabees.

St. Joseph's (1-2, 0-1 HVMAC) will play their next six games on the road with their next game this Saturday at 3:00 squaring off against Cooper Union.
