Bears Volleyball Falls to Brooklyn College

BROOKLYN, NY – The St. Joseph's College men's volleyball team loss to cross-borough rival Brooklyn College in straight sets (30-10, 30-14, 30-27) on Monday night at Brooklyn Technical High School. 

Senior Pat Chiarel (Woodside, NY/Archbishop Molloy) led the Bears with four kills while senior Ed Han (McLean, VA/W.T. Woodson) and freshman Martin Torres (Ozone Park, NY/St. Francis Prep) put away three kills each.  Muhammad Ali Bhatti (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) had eight digs, five assists and two services aces, finishing with team highs in each category.

Brooklyn College (3-14) was led by Adam Metzler who tallied nine kills.  Libero Auston Sumitro  had 10 digs.  Samson Yu and Guillermo Melosevich split the setting duties dishing out 18 and 14 assists, respectively.

Brooklyn College took control of the first and second sets as St. Joseph's could only muster four kills for both sets.  The Bears came alive in the third set building a 13-9 lead behind the serve of Anthony Grasso (Jackson Heights, NY/St. John's Prep) and rallied again late behind Grasso's serve trailing 28-24, but couldn't close the gap.

St. Joseph's travels to Webb Institute on Saturday for a non-conference match slated to begin at 4 p.m.
